LAW SCHOOL REQUIRED DISCLOSURE STATEMENTS

Guideline 2.3(D) of the Guidelines for Unaccredited Law School Rules Provides:

The method of instruction at this law school for the Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree program is principally in physical classroom facilities.

Students enrolled in the J.D. degree program at this law school who successfully complete the first year of law study must pass the First-Year Law Students’ Examination required by Business and Professions Code § 6060(h) and Rule VIII of the Rules Regulating Admission to Practice Law in California as part of the requirements to qualify to take the California Bar Examination. A student who passes the First-Year Law Students’ Examination within three (3) administrations of the examination after first becoming eligible to take it will receive credit for all legal studies completed to the time the examination is passed. A student who does not pass the examination within three (3) administrations of the examination after first becoming eligible to take it must be promptly disqualified from the law school’s J.D. degree program. If the dismissed student subsequently passes the examination, the student is eligible for re-enrollment in this law school’s J.D. degree program, but will receive credit for only one year of legal study.

Study at, or graduation from, this law school may not qualify a student to take the bar examination or to satisfy the requirements for admission to practice in jurisdictions other than California. A student intending to seek admission to practice law in a jurisdiction other than California should contract the admitting authority in that jurisdiction for information regarding the legal education requirements in that jurisdiction for admission to the practice of law.

Guideline 11.3 of the Guidelines for Unaccredited Law School Rules Provides:

The Education provided by Pacific West College of Law may not satisfy the requirements of other jurisdictions for the practice of law. Applicants should contact the jurisdiction in which they may wish to practice for the jurisdiction’s requirements to practice law.

“The method of instruction at this law school for professional law degree programs other than for the Juris Doctor degree is principally in physical classroom facilities. Completion of a professional law degree program at this school other than for the Juris Doctor degree does not qualify a student to take the California Bar Examination or to satisfy the requirements for admission to practice law in California. It may not qualify a student to take the bar examination or to satisfy the requirements for admission to practice of law in any jurisdiction. A student intending to seek admission to practice law should contact the admitting authority in the jurisdictions where the students intends to seek to qualify to sit for the bar examination or for admission to practice for information regarding the legal education requirements in that jurisdiction for admission to practice of law.”

1. Pacific West College of Law is not accredited by the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State of California.

2. Pacific West College of Law has not applied for accreditation in the previous five years.

3. Pacific West College of Law is an unaccredited law school registered with the California Committee of Bar Examiners . Pacific West was founded in 1993 with 28 years of continued existence.

9. Pacific West College of Law was issued a Notice of Noncompliance by the Committee of Bar Examiner in October of 2008 and April 2014 but the matter had been resolved and notices of compliance were issued. On September 2016, Pacific West College of Law was issued a Notice of Noncompliance by the Committee of Bar Examiner and a follow up compliance visit was conducted. The issue had been resolved.

Guideline 5.21 of the Guidelines for Unaccredited Law School Rules

5.21 First-Year Law Students’ Examination.

An applicant who is required to take the First-Year Law Students’ Examination (FYLSE) will not receive credit from the Committee for any law study until he or she has passed the examination. Students successfully completing their first year of law study at an unaccredited law school must take and pass the First-Year Law Students’ Examination within three (3) administrations after first becoming eligible to take it. Only one year of law study will be granted if the examination is passed on an attempt later than within three (3) administrations of the examination after the student becomes eligible to take it.

5.22 Disqualification of Students for Failure to Pass the First-Year Law Students’ Examination.

A student who does not pass the First-Year Law Students’ Examination within three (3) administrations after first becoming eligible to take the examination must be promptly disqualified from a law school’s J.D. program. A student who passes the First-Year Law Students’ Examination within three (3) administrations after first becoming eligible to take it will receive credit for all legal studies completed to the time the examination is passed. A student who does not pass within the three (3) administrations after first becoming eligible to take it, but who subsequently passes, is eligible for re-enrollment in the law school’s J.D. program, but will receive credit for only one year of legal study.

PACIFIC WEST COLLEGE OF LAW 80% ATTENDANCE POLICY

PWCL 80% ATTENDANCE POLICY

A student at Pacific West College of Law is required and MUST attend at least 80% of the regularly scheduled class hours in each course in order to satisfy the Residency Requirement set forth under Guidelines 5.3(A)(1) of the Guideline for Unaccredited Law School Rules.

Each three (3) unit class is required to have 45 hours of classroom instruction. Eighty percent of that would be 36 hours. Student are only allowed 3 maximum absences in each course or class otherwise he or she will be dropped.

A student is not allowed to make up a class that the student was deemed absent as define below.

Absence

A student who is not present for a period of time during a class session, without consent of the Professor should be deemed “absent” for the entire class session.

Note: Since law school 80% attendance is a statutory requirement in California, absence is never considered to be “excused”; the student is either “present” or “absent”.

Consequences of Failure to attend 80% attendance

The consequence of not being present for 80% of class time is that the student will be “dropped” from the class and the student will:

(1) Have to retake the class to earn credit for that course of the students’ academic degree;

(2) The student may lose “Bar Residency” for that semester so that the student will have to take another ENTIRE semester to complete the students four years of law school:

(3) The time limit for the student to take and pass the FYLSX shall not change:

(4) The student may petition to receive a pro-rata tuition refund.

STUDENT ATTENDANCE

Bar Residency Requirements

The California Committee of Bar Examiners that regulates Pacific West College of Law requires a satisfactory completion of a course of classroom study requiring a minimum of 270 hours of classroom attendance year for four (4) years. Meaning, Pacific West College of Law MUST provide a minimum of 270 hours of instruction per calendar year for a four year period to our students in order to meet the CBE residency requirements.

A year is defined as any consecutive twelve 12 month period. 270 hours is equivalent to 18 semester units. Classroom hours for exams do not count for the 270 hours pursuant to Guidelines for Unaccredited Law Schools Sections 5.3(A), and 5.9.

94 Semester Units Requirement

Pacific West requires 94 semester units in order for a JURIS DOCTOR Degree to be conferred. Pacific West will not confer a Juris Doctor Degree on a student who DOES NOT satisfactorily and successfully complete the 94 semester units within 4-years of law study required by Pacific West College of Law in Conferring Juris Doctor Degree. Waiver of the 94 semester units requirement applies under the following circumstances 1.) where student attended another law school and satisfactorily earned and passed all the required bar-tested courses which was accepted by PWCOL as transfer credits (*Required Bar tested subjects/courses – refer to PWCL J.D Curriculum); and 2.) the minimum CBE residency requirements are met (All CBE minimum requirements must be met without exception); and 3.) completing the 94 semester units will cause a student to attend for more than four years of law study.
